An open window
The breeze quenching a thirst
For my hot, dry skin
It was so warm
I was warm
I was burning
Dying to be free
A bar-less cell was my home
My words were my keys to freedom
A piece of paper
A screen
My mouth
Anything that released them
Released me
A world that was always outside my reach
Was mine to create
When the words flowed
A house on a hill
A hammock by the sea
An island to myself
I traveled the world
I yelled into the void
I was in Asia
Where the rains washed me clean
I soared to Nairobi
Where the skies lifted me to heights never known
I hovered above the skyscrapers of my city
Crying out for anyone to pull me in
But not pull me down
I hid in the corners of this town
To hide from the darkness
So careful not to let anything in
Not even the light
I collapsed
I was lost
My light
My words
My love
My heart
They bring me to my knees
They keep me near
The free me
To reach the world that was here all along
