Silenced

As the last leaves fall
From the cottonwood tree
She says nothing
But tells me everything
Her tears flow steady
But she does not weep
She stands tall
Taller than the highest branches
She looks at me
But she says nothing
She shakes the ground
But she does not move
She roars in anger
But her mouth remains shut
She clears her path
But she does not walk
Her eyes tremble
But she does not bend
She does not break
Nor does she flinch
Her eyes glare at mine
But she says nothing
Her world crumbles
But she does not budge
She presents herself
Tall
Angry
Broken
Scared
I see her

But I say nothing

Disconnected

Blindness nearly consumed me
But not as much as it has consumed you
Hatred nearly destroyed me
But not as much as it has destroyed you
Respect was never earned
Yet it was given anyway
I’ve loved
I’ve lost
But it’s hard to lose a love
That was always kept away from me
To you
Love was an obligation
To me
Love was a lie
Love will never mean
What you think it means
Life will always be as empty
As you’ve left me
Broken hearts were so easily tossed away
Broken hearts could always heal
But broken hearts aren’t broken hearts
When all you’ve left me with was dust
So I stayed back
I stopped following
I let go of the hand
That was always just out of reach
You called
But I didn’t turn around
It’s amazing how you don’t miss
Something you never had
I fell
I broke
I faltered
I fought
I lost
I found my ground
I healed
I stood
And I walked away
To find a new light
A new path
A new love
You called
But I couldn’t hear you anymore
The line drawn in the sand
Became a continental divide
My truth
Is no longer your truth
My light
Is no longer your light
Today I breathe
I breathe for me
Today I live
I live for me
Today I love
For I finally see

I was always loved
