The Love I’ve Lived

What is love to you?
Is it just word?
Does it have meaning?
Does hold a value to you?
Have you ever truly loved?
I’ve seen your love
It’s nothing but a gum wrapper
You spit into it
Toss it
And you don’t even think twice
Do you feel this is love?
The axes coming from your mouth
The disgust in your eyes
The bullshit that you hear
The hate fire that spews from your heart
Is that how you love?
Love doesn’t come
From the back of your hand
From the bottom of your sole
From the spine of a book
From the cackle of your throat
From the back of your head
Love doesn’t come
From missed birthdays
From self gifted gifts
From empty apologies
From veiled threats
From real threats
From the sound of a dial tone
Love isn’t found
In bottles
In bags
In texts
In pictures
In posts
In pats on the back
In fake hugs
In huddled whispers
In shame
Love doesn’t disappear in snap
Or reappear just as easily
Love doesn’t hurt you
With forgiveness in mind
Love doesn’t bleed you
Without a scar left behind
Love isn’t forced
Love isn’t coerced
Love isn’t demanded
Love isn’t self pain
Love isn’t self torture
Love isn’t wishes of death
Love isn’t the lies that were told
Love was never what you thought it was
Love will never be what you made it to be
Love still lives here
Still lives in me
But I don’t live here
Not anymore
Never
Again
